Over-the-counter-mouthguards do not fit as well nor do they provide the degree of protection against dental/facial injuries that custom mouthguards offer. The most effective and comfortable mouthguard is one made from a model of the mouth.

Tip: Be sure to thoroughly clean and dry your mouthguard and the container it's kept in. Bacteria thrives in moist, damp places, so brush your mouthguard with toothpaste, wash it with soap and water, or soak it in mouth rinse after each use. Then let it dry completely before storing it.
